LOST: "And the winner is...:

"And the Winner Is..."
Newspaper, Matte Medium, Acrylic
12" x 18"

Sooooo maybe I've been reading too many detective thrillers.
And have been watching "The Wire"...
I strangely enjoyed mimicking the color and texture of blood and matter and applying
it to the pasted newsprint. My original intention was to include a chalk outlined body
below the splatter. Fortunately, upon removal of the tape ! used to mask the head area,
I found the paint 'bled' in such a way that created eyes and stained lips. Cool.
Do not be alarmed by this painting. I do like puppies and double-rainbows.
But just remember... We all play the game.
DUN DUN DUNNNN.

LOST: What now?

Linda Beck
"What Now?"
Watercolour and coloured pencil on cardboard
5.75" x 9.5"

The title "What Now?" implies that the subject has not only lost her way but is also lost in stagnancy. I set the subject of this piece in a vast empty space but wanted the surroundings to feel smothering and oppressive. Even open, empty space can be paralyzing.

LOST:

Sarah Rendon

12"x12"

Mixed Media Collage on Canvas

It's no secret I love LOST. This piece helped me cope with the fact I miss it!

First, I found images that reminded me of the series, such as a parachute, an airplane,

an Apollo bar and the infamous lucky numbers. I aslo wanted to add one of the Dharma logos

because the initiative was always present throughout the series.

Last but not least, I couldn't forget the beautiful island setting.

LOST: "Lost"

Valerie Champagne
12"x 12'
Glass, Concrete

For the "Lost" theme, I decided to pay tribute to the wildly popular sci-fi TV drama, "Lost", by making my first-ever stepping stone. The rather abstract glass mosaic is of the tree-covered island where the plane crash survivors become stranded, and the mosaic is framed by a pattern of Hurley's infamous lottery ticket numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. I chose a concrete stepping stone as my medium because, well, if there are stepping stones leading the way, then you don't really have to worry about getting lost. :)

LOST: "lost & found"

"lost & found"
Dan Pinto
Acrylic, India Ink & Spray Fixative on Wood

I fought with a lot of different ideas for this months theme before settling on the above. I found that my other plans for this painting didn't work as well as I had hoped.

As a child, we had a dog that, at any opportunity, would attempt to escape our backyard into the streets. It was frustrating. Not only because of the hassle of finding her but, more so because it could be quite dangerous for her, running around the streets of Queens. When she was found, however, the sense of relief was overwhelming. Juxtaposing the feeling of fear and relief (lost and found) is what I tried to convey in this painting. We never lived in or near the woods but, I felt that it worked better in the context of the theme. Also, depicting the world as a dark grey on black means a good portion of the painting is, itself, lost. You have to search the painting to really see the environment surrounding the characters.
